Remarks:
Despite the truncated octants similar to Cahill's equal-area variants, it is still a gnomonic. Furuti's website has eight alternate versions of this—satellite imagery, etc.—but they are cut in a non-Butterfly pattern to facilitate folding into a polyhedral pseudo-globe; and so not shown in this gallery of Butterfly or M-shapes. Included here instead are Furuti's alternates among the full-triangular gnomonics. (Above example is the only truncated Butterfly-as-such on his site.)
